Built in 1340, the royal abode sits on 180 acres of land, has 1000 rooms, 100 court yards, 2 schools, a museum, market, relaxation spots, etc.

In 2000, the Nigerian government declared it a national monument, using the National Commission For Museums and Monuments Act.

Bonus fact: another Nigerian ancient palace built in the 14th century that's still standing today is the Katsina Palace. It was built in 1348 by the first Muslim Emir of Katsina— Muhammadu Korau.
