|The Prophet ﷺ And The Tree Trunk That Cried by Abdullah(m): Fri 28, January, 2022|
Today is 25th of Jumaadal Aakhir 1443AH and a Day of Jumu'ah (Friday)
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to stand by a stem of a date-palm tree (while delivering a sermon). When the pulpit was placed for him we heard that stem crying like a pregnant she-camel till the Prophet (ﷺ) got down from the pulpit and placed his hand over it.
Sahih al-Bukhari 918
1.) In another narration, The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘’It was crying for (missing) what it used to hear of religious knowledge given near it’’ - Bukhaari 4/3584. Dear reader, even a tree listens to religious knowledge, what about you?
2.) Even though the purpose of Islam is not to publicize or advertise miracles, this was one of the manifest miracles at the time of the Prophet ﷺ and witnessed by many of his companions (the incident was during a jumu'ah sermon/ prayer).
3.) While it may seem strange that an inanimate object was reported crying by witnesses (even though they are just and the report was not disputed), a Muslim should not be surprised but rather reflect. It was indeed a subjugation from Allaah in order that the tree trunk should deliver a message not only for the Companions but rather, for all mankind, in every time and place. Allaah Most High says, "The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allah] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving." - Surah Al-Israa vs 44.
*O Allaah, we seek refuge in You from knowledge which does not benefit, from a heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allaah), from a soul that is not satisfied and the supplication that is not answered. .... Aameen*
