You may know just few types, but there are over 500 different types of banana in the world. The popular one we have in Nigeria is called Cavendish. The Cavendish variety is the most popular in the world. India and China are the biggest producers of bananas. India produces about 29 million tonnes on average per year, while China produces about 11 million tonnes. European Union and United States are the biggest importers of bananas. EU import 32% of all the bananas produced in the world, while the United States imports 25%.
